1. Overview of Shenzhen, the Host City
Shenzhen is a leading example of China's reform and opening-up achievements and its commitment to high-quality development, supported by a strong foreign trade foundation and a thriving innovation ecosystem. As China's leading city in foreign trade, Shenzhen recorded a total import and export value of RMB 4.55 trillion in 2025, maintaining its position as China's top exporting city for the 33rd consecutive year. The city's total industrial output value above designated size reached RMB 5.44 trillion, while its industrial value added above designated size amounted to RMB 1.21 trillion. Both indicators ranked first among Chinese cities for the fourth consecutive year.
Often referred to as "China's Silicon Valley," Shenzhen has established strong competitive advantages in artificial intelligence, the digital economy and new energy industries. From 2020 to 2025, the value added of strategic emerging industries increased from RMB 1.03 trillion to RMB 1.67 trillion, accounting for 43.0% of the city's GDP. Advanced manufacturing contributed 68.4% of the value added of industrial enterprises above designated size.
Shenzhen's smart terminal industry cluster has exceeded RMB 1 trillion in scale, while three major industry clusters—network and communications, software and information services, and intelligent connected vehicles—have each surpassed RMB 800 billion. The value added of core digital economy industries has exceeded RMB 1 trillion for three consecutive years. Shenzhen also accounts for more than 10% of China's national production across 39 categories of industrial products, including integrated circuits, industrial robots and smartphones.
On 18–19 November 2026, Shenzhen will host the 33rd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting, marking the city's debut as an APEC host city on the international stage.
Located on the eastern bank of the Pearl River Estuary and adjacent to Hong Kong, Shenzhen is a key driving force of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and an international hub for technological innovation. With its well-developed transport network, diverse cultural and tourism attractions, and extensive shopping and business facilities, Shenzhen welcomes visitors from across the Asia-Pacific region with its open and inclusive spirit.
